Fulbright Foreign Student Program (FSP)
What is Fulbright Foreign Student Program (FSP)?
The Fulbright Foreign Student Program enables Ugandan citizens to pursue Master’s or Ph.D. degrees in the United States in all academic fields, excluding clinical medicine. The program primarily aims to strengthen African universities by providing advanced degree training, though candidates affiliated with other academic, cultural, or professional institutions are also eligible.
Since the program’s inception, approximately 399 Ugandans have benefited from Fulbright scholarships, contributing to academic and professional development across the country. Annually, around 5 to 10 Ugandan candidates are selected, depending on funding and field of study.
Who is eligible for FSP?
Applicants must have strong academic records, typically a second-class upper bachelor’s degree or higher for Master’s programs, and a relevant Master’s degree for Ph.D. candidates. Other key considerations include leadership skills, community engagement, and clear, well-defined study objectives aligned with Uganda’s development goals. Applicants must commit to returning to Uganda upon completion of their studies. Applications usually open between February and May.
