USEA MEGA HOMECOMING: CELEBRATING ALUMNI, IMPACT, AND THE SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY

The U.S. Exchange Alumni Network Uganda (USEA) hosted its first-ever Mega Homecoming at Motiv Uganda, bringing together over 400 alumni from across U.S. State Department exchange programs. The event was graced by the U.S. Ambassador to Uganda, Ambassador William Popp, who joined alumni in welcoming over 100 recent exchange participants back to Uganda.

The President of USEA, Owomugisha Blessing Immaculate highlighted that the Homecoming was a celebration of personal and professional milestones, networking, and the collective impact alumni are creating in their communities and beyond. The day featured entertainment, cultural showcases, and a powerful panel discussion under the theme “Faces of Impact: Alumni in Action, Alumni Driving Change, and Alumni Inspiring Futures.”

Through the Faces of Impact panel, outstanding alumni shared how they are shaping Uganda’s future in diverse fields:

Usher Komugisha (IVLP), FIFA Media Relations Liaison Officer, shared her inspiring journey telling Africa’s sports stories on the global stage, Joel Basoga (Fulbright), Lecturer at Uganda Christian University Mukono, reflected on shaping young minds as a lecturer and thought leader, Anne K. Kalinzi (Mandela Washington Fellow), CEO of Tooro Gallery, spoke on championing art and culture as tools for social change, Dr. Lucy Amaniyo (Mandela Washington Fellow), Head Pediatrician & Team Lead, Amani Children’s Clinic, highlighted her work in saving lives and nurturing children’s health, the panel was moderated by Solomon Serwanjja (IVLP alumnus), an award-winning investigative journalist, who steered the conversation on leadership, innovation, and service.

FACES OF IMPACT: U.S. EXCHANGE ALUMNI TRANSFORMING UGANDA

For over six decades, more than 6,000 Ugandans have participated in U.S. government exchange and education programs, spanning more than 13 distinct pathways. These programs have nurtured a generation of leaders, innovators, and changemakers whose work continues to transform communities across the country.

The impact of these alumni is felt in every corner of Uganda. They are entrepreneurs, launching businesses that create jobs and stimulate local economies. Across sectors, alumni-led enterprises have contributed to the growth of small and medium enterprises, generating employment for tens of thousands of Ugandans.

They are creators and innovators, leading hubs of creativity, technology, and social enterprise. Alumni have been instrumental in establishing incubation centers, training programs, and mentorship initiatives, empowering young people with the skills and confidence to turn ideas into action.

USEA CHAPTERS OF CHANGE BOOK CLUB: READING TO TRANSFORM COMMUNITIES

In a fast-paced world where scrolling often outpaces reading, and opinions travel faster than understanding, the USEA Chapters of Change Book Club was formed to create a space to slow down, reflect, and connect.

The Book Club was established by the U.S. Exchange Alumni Network of Uganda (USEA) to bring together alumni and community members who believe in the power of words to inspire action and spark change. Its goal is simple yet profound: to use books as a tool for learning, dialogue, and community transformation.

Through the club, participants engage in thoughtful discussions, creative expression, and critical thinking, exploring ideas that challenge perspectives and illuminate untold stories. It is not just about reading books, it’s about reading the world: analyzing social issues, uncovering hidden narratives, and amplifying unheard voices.
