USEA Central Cluster Mentorship & Tree Planting at Uganda Martyrs Unversity Nkozi.

In April 2023, the Uganda U.S. Exchange Alumni Association (USEA) Central Cluster held an inspiring mentorship and environmental sustainability session at Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) Nkozi, engaging over 100 university students from various academic disciplines. The event brought together passionate alumni, university staff, and student leaders for a day of learning, reflection, and action focused on leadership, career development, and environmental responsibility.

The mentorship session was designed to bridge the gap between students and professionals by connecting them with alumni who have benefited from U.S. exchange programs. Alumni mentors shared insights on career growth, innovation, entrepreneurship, leadership, and community service, encouraging students to adopt a proactive mindset in shaping their personal and professional journeys.

Key themes discussed included career planning, networking, resilience, financial literacy, and civic engagement areas that resonated strongly with the participants, many of whom expressed interest in future alumni-led initiatives.

Students were also introduced to opportunities for collaboration, internships, and leadership training through USEA’s national programs.

.In her remarks, the Vice Chanellor emphasized the importance of mentorship as a continuous process that empowers young people to transform their ideas into impact. “Our goal is to inspire and prepare students to become responsible citizens and innovators who contribute meaningfully to their communities,” he noted.

Following the mentorship session, the team led a tree planting drive on the university campus as a symbolic and practical commitment to environmental stewardship. Together with student volunteers, alumni planted over 200 of indigenous and fruit trees within the campus compound.

This initiative not only contributed to UMU’s greening efforts but also served as a reminder of the shared responsibility in combating climate change and promoting sustainable practices. Each tree planted represented a seed of hope  a call for collective action toward a greener, healthier Uganda.

USEA Central Cluster Celebrates International Day Of The Girl Child By Honoring Mothers

In commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child, the USEA Central Cluster chose to honor the first heroes in every girl’s life: their mothers. On Saturday, 11th October, the team visited the Maternal Ward at Kawempe Regional Referral Hospital, reminding new mothers that every girl child deserves to begin life with love, dignity, and care.

Through the generosity of the alumni community, each mother received a care package containing essential items such as soap, sugar, diapers, detergent, and toilet paper. The visit went beyond gifting; it included interactive postnatal talks, where mothers were guided on postpartum recovery, nutrition, breastfeeding practices, emotional well-being, and hygiene management.

The discussions provided practical advice and created a platform for mothers to share their experiences, ask questions, and receive encouragement from the alumni team and healthcare professionals present.

Additionally, the team participated in cleaning and wellness activities within the ward, reinforcing hygiene practices that contribute to healthier postnatal outcomes for both mothers and newborns.

The initiative was a heartfelt celebration of motherhood, girlhood, and the collective responsibility to nurture a generation of confident, healthy girls. By uplifting mothers and equipping them with knowledge and
